My 83 blazer ignition seems to work perfectly but after a 20 min drive the other day the key won’t turn backwards to shut the blazer off.
if I pull the wire from the distributor and unhook the battery then the ignition will free up and I’m able to shut the key off.
any help would be greatly appreciated

The click is probably the solenoid making contact trying to engage the starter...and lacks power to crank engine. Why can't you change battery?
