Default 05 Malibu-check gas cap

My sons 05 is giving the warning to check gas cap every time he starts it. He has checked the cap and it seems tight. I know there must be a leak in the evap system, are there any common failure points to check? Is it possible to check the cap, or do I just replace it? Any tips on troubleshooting this would be appreciated.

I love the guessing game. I'll go with vent solenoid valve.

You can check the cap but you need a $1000 evap leak detector and cap adaptors.

why don't you get the codes read and have the vent valve cycled on and off while your at it. If it don't click, its not sealing the system.
