Default 1999 chevy overheating/3.1

MY Malibu, Well' i found a cite to ask someone this question? My Malibu 3.1 L is a great car well made machine, but it overheat's. why is this happining. I have replaced everything possible,raid,pump,therm/stat,headgasket kit included manifold gasket almost the whole engine. OK' now what? I Find out the car has a strange feature, kinda like bleeding brakes only a water bleed screw (yup!) it has one of these to..you must bleed the pressure out of the syst. or it will overheat strange... QUESTION? is this right..because mine works just this way....As soon as i do this it's fine..unicorn

You may have an air pocket in the cooling system preventing the coolant from contacting the coolant temp sensor thus preventing the fans from coming on. You may also have a bad sensor, relay or fan.

When does the car overheat? city driving, highway? is there heat inside the car when it overheats?

FIRST THANKS FOR YOU HELP, WELL THIS IS THE DETAILS OF THE SAME. IT DOSE THIS SITTING AT IDEL AND MOVING AND AS YOU SAID, THE HEATER DOSE NOT HEAT WHEN THIS HAPPINS. MOST OF ALL THE WATER RETURNS TO THE SURGE TANK AND OUT OF THE TANK UNDER PRESSURE THEREFORE LOOSING THE WATER HEATING THE ENGINE AND OVERHEATES. THIS IS THE PROBLEM I AM HAVING EVERYTHING ELSE IS WORKING FINE..

sounds like an air pocket. Start the car up...let it warm up a bit, and open the bleeder screw that you saw. carefull as hot steam can come rushing out. do this untill antifreeze comes out. Wait for the thermostat to open up(upper rad hose will be hot), and open the bleeder screw again. Repeat this a few times. You may have to drive the car and repeat the process. I have had to, on one occasion, jack the front end of the car up to eliminate the air pocket because of the way the cooling system is designed.

If you still cannot get the air pocket out of it, take it to a shop that has a cooling system vacuum filler. It draws a vacuum on the entire cooling system, and sucks the antifreeze in virtually eliminating any air pockets.

Default OverHeating issues

Hi I have a 98 Malibu LS with the 3.1 V6 in it. Its been over heating (5 times in the last week). I have so far replaced the thermostat, coolant hoses, radiator, flushed the system, and the coolant reserve overflow line and coolant reserve overflow tank cap. About to replace the water pump tomorrow. In addition, does anyone know at what temperature that the cooling fans kick on? Anyone have any other ideas? I've checked the oil regularly and there is no coolant mixed in. So am running out of ideas as to what can be done. HELP???
