don't really know much about cars but the malibu is completely dead when i try to turn the key

the rpm dial goes up though and some of the other dials too when i insert the key

i had the battery fully charged, and also after trying with the fully charged battery and getting nothing, i tried jumper cables from my truck and same thing happens

any ideas?
