Default Malibu 2009 TPMS is dead!

Ok Here is my story:
I had my brand new Malibu LS, about 5 months ago, and since they made it mandotry for us in Canada to have winter tires, I paid a hefy additional price to the dealer for 4 winter tires, rims and TPMS sensors. Everything was fine and working and I had no alarms indicating of any malfunction until I, myself, changed all 4 tires and put back in the originals.

Knowing the car had TPM system, I was expecting to get an alarm, and I was ready to go through the resetting procedure, but instead I had no warning and the tire pressure indicator did not light up! as if the car did not have any pressure monitoring at all! Anyway, I started the TPMS resetting procedure up to the step of pressing and holding the LOCK and UNLOCK keys at the same time and .... Nothing happens, no Horn sounds or signal light!

So I started reading the manual again, and another thing I dicoverd was that I am suppose to see the tire pressures through the DIC ( When I click the info button several times). In my case I do not see any tire pressure information at all!

Now here are my questions: Is it possible that the dealer had disabled my TPMS when they changed my original tires with winter tires? If yes, how can I re-enable it?

Thanks in advance

So when you cycle through the "info" button, there's things that come up like:
-Odometer/Exterior Temperature
-Trip A Computer
-Trip B Computer
-Average Speed
-Fuel Economy
-Inst Fuel Economy
-Oil Life in %
-Tire Pressure Front Wheels
-Tire Pressure Rear Wheels

The tire pressure for the front wheels appears as:
-LF: 220 Kpa RF: 220 Kpa

The tire pressure for the rear wheels appears as:
-LR: 220 Kpa RR: 220 Kpa

When you're saying that the you're not getting tire pressure information, are you saying that it skips from Oil Monitor right back to Odometer/Exterior Temperature?

exactly, when I press the info button, it skips form the Oil life back to Odometer/Exterior Temperature and does'nt show any tire information, as if it does not have this feature at all!

When you start your vehicle, can you look for the symbol as shown in the attachment? It basically looks like a tire with an exclamation mark through it. Does the light come on when you start your car? I am assuming this is when the system is initialized...

Okay, then it may very well be possible that the dealer did disable your TPMS. I don't think that is legal to disable it (it's not in Manitoba anyway), but from what you're telling me, it appears to be off.

Unfortunately there isn't a way that you can re-activate the TPMS by yourself. The only way to do it is via the GM Tech II reader. Ask them to put the reader on and get them to turn it back on. If they say it's on, ask them to troubleshoot it, afterall, it's still under warranty.

Ok, so I took the car to the dealer and we ( Me and the head mechanic at the dealer) found out that TPMS is an option on all 2009 Malibu models ( LS, LT, LTZ), so my car was not born with TPMS and will die without it! ( Thats the way he put it! ) At least I will get my money back for the sensors they sold me for my winter tires!

Voilą! Problem solved!
