Default 2000 Malibu problem*

When I accelerate going on to the highway or up an inclined grade, the car lags and acts like it's either getting too much fuel or too little. Basically, the car does a forward and backward motion during acceleration. I notice the RPM gauge also fluctuates up and down when it does this lag episode.

The engine light doesn't come on so i don't think a code reader device would work (I may be wrong). I've changed all spark plugs and wires. Changed battery and fuel pump and fuel filters. I even had the cat converter checked for being plugged. Nothing. A mechanic told me a while back it could be the 'brain box' something or other, but I'm not sure.

Does anyone have a clue as to why it does this?

Try changing the Camshaft Positioning Sensor, I think it will make a big difference and its a fairly cheap fix.
