2003 malibu axel

Is it hard to change a front axel on a 2003 malibu. Also will a broken axel make it impossible to steer the vehicle.

Axle has nothing to do w/steering unless it is jammed in something. Car wouldn't move w/a truly broken axle(open final drive, all power would go to broken axle). What did you hit to damage axle & steering?
