I have a 2004 Chevy Malibu Maxx LT & today the "check gas cap" message came on and I noticed she started to idle rough. Earlier today the message came on, so I tightened the gas cap & turned off the light, but it came back on. I then noticed the car running rough. Could the two problems be interconnected?

It's covered under the GM certified warranty, but I'm just trying to learn.

I fired up the car to leave my friends house & the message was gone. I don't know what to think so for now I'll keep an eye on it. I didn't want to clear it so it was there tomorrow when I took the car to get the broken sun visor replaced, but it's a little hard to do when the message is gone.

 

There will be history code, they will see it.

 

Got the car to Jack Maxton Chevrolet today to have the sun visors replaced & mentioned the message on the radio. They checked for codes & had a emissions small leak code. They cleared the codes & told me if it comes back on they will get me a loaner car while they track down the problem
