Default 2007 Malibu won't shift under load

My problem sounds a lot like this post (https://chevroletforum.com/forum/mal...roblems-28293/) but I don't think it's a 2nd gear problem since it is doing it in all gears.

When I step on the gas hard (to pass a Ford Mustang or ANYTHING Chrysler makes for instance), the engine revs up but the trans won't shift. It just stops at the rev-limiter and will not shift until I let off the gas, count to 4 and feather the gas pedal.

It does it regardless of temperature and regardless of gear (i.e. from 2nd to 3rd, from 3rd to 4th etc). I put in a new filter and fluid @ 100k. I was considering another change (now @ 151k) and a bottle of Lucas (filter plugged???). Fluid level was OK when I changed it.

BTW when it does it, the CEL flashes and I pull a P0420 and a P0300, both of which self clear pretty quickly so I'm pretty sure they are unrelated....odd that I don't pull a code for the root cause of the issue.

Thanks again!

You have a plugged catalytic converter. Your car will run like a champ once you replace it.

Default Fixed it

New fluid and filter and (what I think did the trick) an bottle of Lucas transmission fluid additive.

Transmission slipping would not cause a p0420 or a p0300 to set. But if the problem is fixed the problem is fixed I guess

Default p0420 or a p0300

Here's my $.02.

When the transmission kicks down the engine naturally revs up and since it won't shift forward it hits the rev limiter. That is when the CEL blinks and throws the code. This was happening even when it was in cruise control going up a hill. It could be that the filter was restricting flow (although I saw no evidence of this) or that something was "sticking" in the trans keeping it from shifting and the fluid additive helped it.

Whatever the root cause it seems to be better, if not back to normal.

Very interesting to say the least. But glad your vehicle is fixed. I would've liked to road test this vehicle to feel this scenario just to experience it for myself since its something new than what I typically run in to.
