Angry 98 malibu a/c not cold

The short story is the air conditioner is not blowing cold air, it is warmer than the out side air but not by much. The ac light comes on and DOES NOT BLINK, I have found the blinking light to be a common problem and did the repair for that even though it is not my problem. The temp selector seems to be working, when it is turned to hot it gets a lot hotter. The vent selector is working properly, I can change where the air blows from the dash vents, to floor and defroster with the blends working as well.

Now the good stuff, the compressor comes on and stays on. The pressure readings are 180-195 high side and 35-40 low on the days I have checked it has been between 80 and 95 degrees outside. There is a very small leak, I added one 12 oz can of r134 last summer and one and the beginning of this summer. I have not added any a/c oil. The compressor, orifice tube, accumulator, ect and system was replaced 4 years ago and beside the leak, has worked fine till now.

Any ideas would be great!

Might be in the evaporator core, either plugged with leaves or whatever. Have you changed the cabin air filter? Do you have any condensate drain while setting?

I doubt it is something blocking the evaporator, the cowl cover is good and in place. I replaced the wiper transmission awhile ago and there was nothing there at the time. There is no cabin air filter on this car. I don't remember ever seeing any condensation dripping from this car. all good ideas, keep them coming!

the high and low side pressures for the ambient temp you posted puts the system in the lower part of the normal operating window.

Feel the lines before and after the orfice tube. high side hot and low side cold?

Quantify the measured temp of the air coming out of the center vent at max blower and a/c settings vs ambient temp. Provide relative humidity also. 20'F difference is considered to be acceptable.

Thumbs up

well the pressures lower than I posted, low side was 20 high was 145. Turns out the needles on my cheap gauges were stuck. I have had them for 6 years, so I guess I got what I paid for and then some. Thanks for the ideas guys!
