Unhappy 99 Chevy Malibu 2.4L leaked engine oil

So I was driving my car in the freeway for about an hour, I
got off at an exit, the oil lamp turned on, I drove 2 blocks
I noticed the engine would shake, so I parked my car at a
junkyard parking lot..
I opened the hood I noticed there was smoke burning smelled
like engine oil, I took a look at the oil dipstick it was completely dry..
I had in my trunk a gallon half of oil, added the oil in the engine
started up the engine for a few seconds and it was fine there was no engine knock at all, I did notice underneath the engine there was oil dripping, it was coming from the Rear Main Seal..
I dont know why this happened

This car has 172K, this car I have to check the oil at least
every week because it gets low on oil, Im guessing the Piston rings
are worn out.
