Default auto headlight sensor

has anyone had the sensor fall out of the dash? Does the part of the dash against the windshield come out seperate from the main dash? If not how can you get to the sensor?

No, never heard of an ambient light sensor "fall out." It can fall in if forced since it's inserted into the hole from underneath. The I/P upper trim panel is secured to the rest of the instrument panel with clips and can be removed after the windshield side upper garnish molding over the A-pillar on both sides are removed first. It's really hard not to crack or leave marks all over the place, though.

Default oh yeah it fell out

Took the front section of the dash out and low and behold the plastic frame of the dash is cracked in 3 spots. On both sides of the sensor and one in front of the driver. What junk!!!!!!!!

Sensor working fine now, had to superglue it to the bottom of one the broken pieces of the dash frame. Then glue some of the pcs back together to give it some strength. So we'll see how long this last. Come on Chevy bring on the next problem keeps my brain working on how to fix all your crappy design flaws. now how about that darn visor mirror cover, what can I do to fix it??????? hmmmmmm

It sounds like you need a new vehicle. Keep in mind that these things aren't built to last in that price range. It doesn't matter what make or model. They are all spec'ed out and put together with parts from the lowest bidder, consistent with the target vehicle price.

It's '07 with just over 53000 miles on it. I'm thinkin it should last a little longer than that. IMO at $20,000 I should expect a lot more out of it.

This is really for anyone who may be reading this thread. Seeing how a single major repair can cost $1,000 or more, it really makes sense to consider getting a GM Protection Plan. For example, I could have signed up for what amounts to an extension of my bumper-to-bumper coverage to 6 year/100k miles for ~$2,000. So, I could have more than doubled my bumper-to-bumper coverage with $0 deductible for a lousy 10% on a nominal $20,000 mid-size vehicle. I think this is too good a deal to pass up for those who plan to keep the vehicle longer than 2-3 years. I definitely plan to check into my options before the factory warranty ends.
