My 1997 Malibu is having difficulty shifting out of park. I suspect that the wiring between my brake and the solenoid is damaged, but until I find the time to get it fixed, I am trying to locate the manual override so I can at least drive it when necessary.

Does anyone know where it is on this model?

Also, a word of warning for others with the same problem-

I attempted to solve the problem by taping the shifter switch in. The following day I had a drained battery. I suspect the solenoid uses an electro-magnet and I had it running constantly for over 24 hours. I may be wrong about the cause, but it's worth noting the possibility.

should be a small removable panle right near the shifter i think in the change tray or drink holder. if i remember right its a small red switch you push down.
