Chevrolet Malibu reliability - how does it compare?
Because existing sources of auto reliability information left much to be desired, in late 2005 I started conducting my own reliability research at TrueDelta.com. TrueDelta reports absolute stats like "trips to the shop" that make the differences between cars much clearer. Results are updated four times a year, so any significant changes in a model's reliability become apparent quickly.
So far only one year of the Malibu--2005-- is included in this research because too few owners are signed up for other years. I'd like to have the Malibu included, to get a clearer idea of how it compares to the competitiion. But this is going to require quite a few more participants, even for the 2005.
To put things in perspective, I already have 79 owners enrolled for the 2008 Accord. Among GM vehicles, 133 are enrolled for the Saturn AURA. But just 96 total for all years of the Malibu. I hope we can fix this.
Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.
To encourage participation, panel members receive full access to the results for free.

I'm close to the minimum needed to get started with the 2005 model year, and halfway with the 2006. If anyone wants to see better reliability info on the Malibu, please help make it happen.

Now just a few cars short. I also hope to have quick results for the new 2008 Malibu. This will depend on how quickly owners buy them, sign up, and participate.

Saw a 2008 Malibu LTZ at a local dealer yesterday, plan to go drive it today. Attractive car. If anyone buys a 2008, I hope they'll sign up so I can provide quick initial results.

Now only two owners short of the minimum with the 2005.

Got two more owners for the 2005, started collecting data, then lost two owners. At any rate, still need more participants for all years.
No 2008s yet. Where are those owners?

Starting to see some 2008s, six to be precise. Going to need quite a few more.
As stated in the updated OP, I've had a much harder time finding Malibu owners than those of competing cars. And I'd really like to include the Malibu in this research.
