I went to start my 2000 Malibu but didn't hold the ignition quite long enough. I turned the key back off and tried to start it again too early, before the starter had stopped completely, and now the car will not start at all. The gauges skip around when I turn the key between ACC and ON but none of the electronics work, no auto locks or even the trunk. what on earth is going on here?

Ignition switch. Not the key cylinder, the switch behind it. It happend to my grand am just not to the extent that happend to you. Its easy to fix, but I don't know if auto zone has that part.
