question about 1999 windows and lights
two questions to get out of the way here, the first one is how hard is it to replace a rear passenger window? i shattered mine and its $100 cheaper if i instal it myself. i have a general knowledge of how the window works, but im not quite sure if its a simple installation.
secondly, i can not turn my headlights off unless i shut my car off. even when turning the **** on my lever to the off position they stay on. my thought is wiring, but im not completely sure about the malibu's wiring so i did not want to test it.
any help on either topic would be greatly appreciated.

well the window, sould not be an easy ting, if its power you would hve to remount the motor and everything and make sure its ligned up properly, as well as completely take the inside door panels off, etc...
The lights are daytime running lights, they dont turn off, soon as you start the car they come on, shold have an override on the light switch, but soon as you put in in drive they will come one again

well i think i can handle the window, the actual alignment would be my only problem, would it be more of trial and error testing for the alignment though? if its something that can be messed up very easily ill take it in, but if its more of pain in the butt than a skill issue i have no problem with it.
as for the lights, im aware of the DRLs, but i guess i should rephrase the problem. even at night when i am in park i can neither turn my lights off or switch to parking lights, the actual night time headlights stay on at all times. ive tried cleaning the sensor for the DRLs thinking that that might be the problemsince i read it elsewhere on the site, but no luck. im planning on recleaning it again, but im pretty sure that isnt the problem.

What intensity do you think the headlights are ... low or high beams ?
The sensor that you are talking about cleaning is for auto head light on feature. This works with the light switch in the auto position ... when the ambient light is dark the sensor will automatically activate the head lights... has nothing to do with the DRL .
It's possible the sensor is dirty or it may be faulty if the low beams are on all the time.
The park brake will shut off the DRL .

I think they are talking about the light override not working for the DRL, you should be able to idle and have the lights off, you have to turn the light switch to the left fro the override I beleive, otherwise they will stay on all the time, and 99s may not have this feature...not sure,
The window if it were me my biggest concernt would be scratching the glass or breaking it, you say they want a 100 bucks to swap it for you, Im betting it would take you a better part of all day to do it yourself and then risk breaking or scratching the glass only to have tehm do it for you AGAIN. I tried this once with plexi and my jeep to save 40 bucks, after I broke the plexi trying to drill tiny holes for mounting, I paid the extra 40.....and another sheet of plexi

The lights control switch is on the multifunction switch stalk not on the dash for these Malibus.

The sensor is for the Automatic Light Control (ALC) .
Now I'm confused if you have a problem or ....are you asking how to turn off your lights while idling at night ?
If you want to disable the lights while in park and at night then the proceedure outlined in my 99 Malibu's manual is as follows :
"To idle your vehicle with the ALC system off, set the park brake while the ignition is off. Then start the vehicle. The ALC system will stay off until you release the park brake."
