Temperature gauge reading 2014 Malibu

I just purchased a 2014 Malibu 2LT which had been a rental car. The pointer on the temperature gauge points somewhere between 10:30 and 11 (where noon is straight up). Of course, it has no numbers. Is this the normal temperature reading on a 2014 with the standard engine?

C=cold
H=hot
I wouldn't be concerned if it stays under 3/4 and the coolant level is up to the full cold mark when checking it COLD only
