Default `98 Lumina Rear Tire Inside Wall Damage

I have a 98 Lumina that is tearing up the inside sidewall on the driver's side rear. I've replaced this tire once before for the same thing about a year or so ago. I am just looking for a list of things to start checking for what may be causing this. My assumption is the bottom of the strut, where the spring sits, is hitting the inside wall during large bumps. See attached picture. Just wondering if anyone else has had this, and if there is anything else I should be looking into. The tire spins freely if the car is jacked up, fyi.

Thanks!

Broken spring that protrudes off the strut plate is what comes to mind.. Might not notice that when it's jacked up, stick your head under while it's on the ground you might see it
