I am having the timing belt replaced. While in there, I opted to have the timing chain replaced. I bought tool: Kent Moore J-38616 3.4L DOHC Engine Camshaft Sprocket Remover with Bolts. I have enclosed a picture of the tool with directions.
This tool will line up with the pear shaped holes in the sprockets EXCEPT the intermediate shaft sprocket has a different hole pattern type. According to what I have read, the tool should work on all sprockets. BUT my mechanic doesn't think the tool will work. He didn't think the holes in the intermediate shaft sprocket have threading. The 3 self tapping screws are supposed to be used in this instance. That is explained in the lower text of the directions.
Do the holes on the intermediate shaft sprocket have threading OR perhaps only some have threading?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

I found out that the bolt holes on the intermediate sprocket are not threaded. They should be. If they were, the bolts would go in. Does anyone know if this is a common issue? Does anyone know how to remove this part with a different method? Thanks
