Default 1993 3.1 lumina

Hi All

I have a 93 lumina - with the 3.1 liter.

Oil light comes on and off from time to time... I just changed the oil and still does it... I figured maybe a clogged up filter was restricting flow... nope.

as you know, these cars don't have oil pressure gauges in them which I hate... just an idiot light hehe

is it more common that the oil pressure switch has failed, or is the pump starting to act up? - do oil pumps either fail completely or can they slowly fail... the last two days, it has been off - was off today going to work, but on, coming home.

My wife drove it 20 miles today home from work with the oil light on, and the engine sounded fine... she shut the car off and then restarted it, and of course, the light went out....

I plan on changing the oil pressure switch, but is there an easy way figure this out to see what pressure is really there? to put in an oil pressure gauge? or at least to put a gauge on it somehow to monitor the pressure? does it have to go in the same hole as that switch?

anything else I can check? I'm a bit nervous about this now. car only has 130K on her, and I just had the top end totally done! I'm running 5w 30 oil... can these switches fail like this, or do they either work, or don't work?

Trying to troubleshoot this
Thanks
