Default 2002 MC SS intrument lights not working

Car starts fine. Headlights work. Problem is instrument lights are not working. I was able to hit the top of the dash and they came on once, but no more. I have pulled the instrument cluster out and did not see anything. Fuse is good. I'm stumped. I read somewhere that it may be the light switch, but the headlights work fine??? Any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance....

Default Had this problem once.

Had this problem on a 2001 MC SS. Had me scratching my head for a day. Because the instrument lights switch is part of but not having to do anything with turning the headlights on and off, the switch is bad. Once the part was out I could see where the instrument light part had gotten hot and turned some of the white plastic a burnt brown color. This took me about 45 min to do after purchasing a new switch at napa for $108 I think. I think some other places had the part cheaper or you can try a junk yard.

Also if you have never taken your dash apart take your time and find the hidden screws. IE the one in the glove box and the one under the fuse panel cover on the drivers side.
