Default 350 CI engine in early 70's

Did Chevy put different types of 350 motors in the Monte Carlo in the early 70's? I was told thatmost hada "passenger" motor and a "sport" motor was in some but far fewer. How can you tell the difference? I am looking to buy a 1973-ish Monte and not sure which would be the best motor to look for. What about the 454? Suggestions?

Thanks.

I know they had an SS 454 but i don't know what year they stopped the SS, also the 454 isnt the best motor anyways, bad rod geometry
