Default 88 monte project car

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a 1988 Monte Carlo SS that was rebuilt they swapped the motor for a chevy 350, with hooker headers, 2.5" exhaust and flowmaster mufflers.

I do not know where the motor came from or what year to get parts for it is there a way to check this?

I know that the engine is hooked up without a computer.

There are casting numbers on the side of the block, you can find what it was in originally from that.

Yup thats a sure fire way to do it, but here is a couple of fast ways to tell a ballpark year, '87 and up all have centerbolt valve covers, '96 and up have the centerbolt valve covers and only have 8 intake bolts that are vertical, any thing before then and virtualy all the parts are the same other than what side the dipstick is on...oh ya i believe it was 86 when they changed to 1 pc rear main seal.
