I have a 97 Lumina that will run smooth an silk while sitting and Idling,and it will usually run good first thing in the morning, but if you cut if off and then try start it and take off it will jump and skip and backfire. The problem is it doesn't do it all the time and some time are worse than others. I have replaced the cam sensor, the egr sensor, the plugs and wires. It is not throwing any codes when it is acting up, but it sure does smell. Could not even get it home the other night it completly shut off, but would start just fine, but would skip and jump when I accelerated. Any clues??

 

I have a 1998 doing exactly the same thing. Have taken it to shop several times, they cannot find the problem they have repleced several things and ran up $800 in repairs but car still does it. It sounds like it is running out of time when you accelerate but idles just fine. It also does it intermittedly. Have you had any luck with yours ?

 

no luck so far, cleaned the coil post and car ran great for about 7 months and now it started jumping and skiping again. We replaced the coils, all 3 and it stills does it. everyone is total baffled, think may it may be the converter, not sure. Any luck with yours?
