Question 98 Lumina LTZ shifting issue

1998 LTZ 3.8L with a transmission issue.

It seems the shift points are screwed up across the board. 1st, 2nd, 3rd will not shift until it hits 4,000RPM. other than that it's baby smooth. Anyone have an ideas on the tranny? I had a transmission place tell me it prob wasn't the transmission itself but the transmission computer. He said if i hear a whining noise coming from it, it is most likely stuck in "high-mode" such as when you are are accelerating hard so it's shifting that way too. Kind of makes sense with the way it's acting.

He said a re-flash might fix it or it could need replaced. I've never heard of a transmission computer, but I've also had the same Ford truck for 10 years.

Is this a common issue with the LTZ tranny? Car has 172,000 on it.

Default possibly a speed sensor or transmission speed sensor?

Advanced has two diff speed sensors listed, one just called Speed Sensor and the other is called a transmission speed sensor.

Which one of those has the most influence on shift points, etc? I've been researching and many posts/articles point to a bad sensor or solenoid.

Something I should have checked before posting... if starting from a full stop i put the gear shift into 1, manually switch it to 2 then to D then to Overdrive, it never up-shifts after 3rd. So guess i'll research from that stand point.

if anyone has any ideas let me know, from other posts sound like more and more could be the Transmission pressure control solenoid.
