Default App Sensor/App Sensor 2 problems

I have a 2007 Monte Carlo. All of a sudden the "Service Traction System" light came on, followed immediatley by "Engine Power Reduced." Once it comes on, it stays on until the car is shut off for a while. It comes on about once a week. Is this something I can fix myself?

Auto Zone ran a scan and these were the details:

APP Sensor/APP Sensor 2
Signal voltage fault

exp: ECM has detected that the APP sensor signal 1 and 2 do not agree.

Prob.
1 - Poor electrical connection
2 - Fail App sensor

NOTE: I have no idea whether this could be relevant as it was a while back. In April the car was in an accident--it a curb causing $3000 worth of damage, tore the passanger wheel off and pulling practically everything it was connected to with it. The reason I toss this in is that in the event a sensor may have needed to be repaired in this type of repair, I may be able to prove that the repair part was faulty and insurance would cover it.

Thank for your help.

Welcome to the forum
I believe the APP is the Accelerator Pedal Position sensor...
Might check around the accelerator pedal for any loose connections or damage to the pedal/switch itself...
What was the code number? might check it out at OBD II codes to get more info

Default Code

I have a number written down as P2138. I am not sure if that is the code you refer to. I will try and find it.

2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo | Impala, Monte Carlo (VIN W) Service Manual | Document ID: 1991306
#07-06-04-019: Intermittent MIL/SES, DTC P2138 with
Reduced Engine Power (Repair Instrument Panel (IP)
to Body Harness Connector) - (Jun 21, 2007)
Condition
Some customers may comment on an intermittent MIL/SES light Illuminated with a message
center or an indicator that displays Reduced Engine Power. DTC P2138 - Accelerator Pedal Position
(APP) Sensor 1-2 Correlation may be set. The voltage difference between APP sensor 1 and APP
sensor 2 exceeds a predetermined value for more than 2 seconds. Refer to DTC P2138 in SI for
further diagnostics.
Cause
On some vehicles, the IP to body harness connector, which carries the APP signal to the ECM/PCM,
is located in the left hand kick panel area and if the kick panel is not sealed properly, water enters
and causes a short in the APP circuits setting a P2138 code.
Correction
Important: Do Not replace the accelerator pedal assembly.
Locate the IP to body harness connector, which may be located in and around the left hand kick
panel area. Check to see if there is a water leak into the area and repair as necessary.
