There are so many different ways to accomplish your goal of building your car to beat your buddies rustang. It all comes down to how much $ you have to spend. His car unmodified should weigh about 1,485kg while yours is 1,457-1,469kg so pretty close weight wise. His motor should have anywhere from 260-320 HP. So if you build that 5.7 to 400hp you should smoke him.

Edelbrock /Holley and a few others sell top end kits that include heads/intake/cam combo's that are made to compliment each other. AFR and many other sites have proven builds that you could use. Just remember the crazier you go the more things you will have to modify, suspension, transmission, rearend ect. It can turn into a very expensive project.
