New alternator gone bad
Hello, I live in Sweden and own a Monte carlo from 1974.
I thought I could get some help here from you guys.
My alternators bearings was going bad so I bought a new alternator.
I belive I have a Delco 10 SI
It is basically identical to the old one, with the only difference being the markings on the connector.
The old one says "F F" (90% sure though the markings are a bit hard to read)
The new one has the markings "R F" above the connector.
Anyways I plugged the new one in, it charged normally and I took it for a ride. Then after a while it started to smell a bit burnt from the alternator, though nothing looked wrong.
So I drove home, then the alternator lamp in the dashboard lights up.
When testing the new alternator at home it didn't work anymore.
When plugging in the old one with bad bearings everything worked fine.
Did I do something wrong (thinking of the connector markings)
Or was the new alternator just bad from factory?
This is the old alternator back into place
It really looks like two \"F"s

All the ones I have seen are R F. Probably you got a bad unit. You can also replace the bearings in your old alternator. The 10SI is easy to work on and replace parts. There are rebuild kits for this alternator.
This kit is good up to a 75 amp alternator.

Hopefully a bad unit then, because I sent it back to the store and need to inspect it before I can get a refund.
And I really don't want to destroy another one.
The link doesn't work, but that don't matter. Shipping to Sweden costs a lot and it can't take months for it to arrive...
