Default Power Steering Problems

My Monte has slowly been getting harder to turn the wheel. At first it was just in parking lots, and has been progressing until you almost cant turn a corner without giving her some gas to get the wheel around. Are there any filters or anything that I could try to clean before I go replace the pump, or is it the pump for sure?

No leaks, but my cousin came over the other day and we were flushing the pump, i removed the return hose and plugged the hole in the resevoir, then filled resevoir, started car and turned the wheel. The fluids that came out the return hose were very frothy and dark. We did this 2 or 3 times then it got dark so we gave up. When i checked the fluid level in the resevoir after hooking hoses back up it was frothy. Next day was markable improvement in steering, but still stiff at low rpms. Think I should try it again? Any ideas why it would be frothy?

I have an 06 Monte Carlo and Power steering starting making a horrid noise. Took it to the dealer and told me the pump was going out and they replaced it. They said the pump was on national backorder and I had to drivea rental car for two weeks! (On GM's dime of course) Maybe it's a monte thing?
