I am pretty sure you have the 454 cubic inch or 7.4 liter GM engine. It's an okay motor, but not like the Chevrolet 396 cubic inch large block motor of days gone bye. If I were a younger man, I'd beef up a large block 366 (6.0 liter) cubic inch engine and shoehorn it into my 98' K-1500.
That GM engine had torque like you wouldn't believe, as a stock medium-duty truck engine. I know, as my father had one in his 1969 Chevrolet C-60, with a two-speed electrical-shift rear axle and a heavy-duty Borg-Warner 5-Speed manual transmission. What a great motor that was.
I'd have to beef up the rear axle, of course, else I'd not be able to use it without damaging the rear axle spider-gears, whatsoever, upon take-off from a stop-light, or stop-sign, at all.
