Post just saying "Hello"

Hi everyone,
I thought I might give this forum thing a try. I guess there just may be some wisdom in the group, because God knows I'm all out of the stuff. I inherited my recently deceased Dad's truck (1999 Silverado). The old boy only had it for about 2 years (after selling his 95 Ram that he bought new and had just sold). Funny thing; every since i was a kid, he always had a truck, but then he decided he didn't need one anymore because he was retired. Then he got all antsy because he figured he needed a truck after all... that's where the Silverado comes in.
Anyway, I'm working on it in the driveway, and I can always use a little help from my friends. And if any of my wrenching comes in handy, I'll be sure to post to the forum if I see something I can help out with.

Doug/out

Post Thanks for the welcome

Thanks for the welcome. I'll snap a pic and post it shortly. I'll also post detailed pics of the job in the other section (I think it's called "Silverados and Full-size pick-ups") as the job progresses. This seems like a pretty good use for the Internet. Who said you can't teach an old Doug new tricks?

Welcome Doug. Sorry about your Dad's demise, but your inheritance sounds solid. And yes we will appreciate your comments and questions equally. OK?

"Welcome to the forum. THe more people we have the better knowledge base we have."
Again, thanks for the welcome.
I suppose what you say is true, but I posted what I'm working on, and the "main problem" I'm trying to figure out: funny thing is, there's been over 70 "views" and not a word about how to get those g.d. backing plates off. Maybe this knowledge base only applies to shiny new trucks... we'll see, I guess. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Not all people look at all sections. I didnt even see your problem until you pointed it out here. I usually surf suburban section and the new posts the odd time. Give it some time im sure someone around here has replaced the backing plates. I havent. I posted a couple of links i found. I think you will have to remove the axle shafts unless they are a 2 peice backing plate. Removing them isnt hard. I removed mine on my astro a few years back. Becides it will give you a chance to change your dif fluid.
