Default Need help with fuel problem

So I put a new fuel pump in a 1998 Chev Silverado ok single cab. After putting it in and a new fuel filter. It acted as if though it wanted to start but wouldn't. It wasn't till after I filled the tank up with gas the sucker started checked relays mass air flow sensor coil all that good stuff and nothing. Can someone help me please...

not sure if you replaced just the pump or assembly but the rubber hose between the pump and assembly can crack and leak sometimes having fuel around it (filled tank) will hide the problem

That's what I was wondering? He'd have to have at least got most the gas out to drop the tank.
