Default New guy

I just bought an '86 GMC 1500 step side truck a month ago. It's in pretty good shape but I plan to rebuild it. The engine appears to be a rebuilt 350 but I'm still verifying. The owner didn't know. It has a TH 350 tranny but I'm working to replace it with a 700R4. Right now I'm trying to get everything in good working order so I joined this forum to engage all you experts in the field that know all the stuff I will need to pull this off.

I have a lot of automotive experience. I grew up in a body shop - my dad owns one. He, myself and my brother did a complete restore of a '63 Chevy step side that belonged to my great grandfather. I'm weak in the engine knowledge area so all the help I can get will be greatly appreciated!!
