New (to me) 1998 Chevy Malibu
I just recently bought a 1998 Chevy Malibu and I have to say... I'm totally and completely IN LOVE with this car!! It has a rebuilt title and had only 78, 500 original miles when I bought it approximately three weeks ago. Along with a massive amount of power for a V6 (it has a 3.1 Liter engine), this car rides like a dream!!!
About a week ago, my "Check Engine" light came on. In the manual, the instructions say to take the gas cap off, put it back on, drive it and the light should go off. I did as the directions said and the light DID go off after a day or so. About three days ago, the "Check Engine" light came back on. I did as the directions said again, but this time I don't think it's going to work. The light still hasn't went off and I have repeated the directions about the gas cap almost everyday for a couple days now. If a tune up doesn't work, does anyone have anymore advise as to what I should do next??
As I was reading some posts on this website regarding the Malibu's, I noticed that there were a few posts concerning the gas gauges being flipped around. When I bought my Malibu, my gas gauge was the same way. I fixed mine by using a hair pin (also called a "bobby pin" by us southern women) with a curved end. I inserted the curved end of the hair pin around the area surrounding the reset tab of the trip meter. Very slowly and very carefully I flipped the gauge around to it's proper location. It took a little time and a lot of patience, but my gas gauge is working perfectly now and I didn't have to remove one screw from the dash!! Who would've thunk it! haha....
Besides the brakes rubbing against the rotary on the passenger front after a recent brake pad change and the rotary on the same side causing a small vibration in the car when it's in speeds in excess of 50 mph, this car is everything and then some!! I have never been able to make the tires squeal on a front wheel drive vehicle on take off..... until I got my Malibu!!! [sm=gears.gif]
