Default 1927 Chevrolet Truck Clutch

So, Finally got the 1927 Chevy Capital A to start consistently. However the brake light would also stay on once I pushed on the pedal. So it seemed to be an easy fix. I took the bar (brake rod from the pedal to the rear axel), off, cleaned it up and put it back - now the clutch is making noise when I press on it. When I took the Brake rod out, which is attached to the clutch pedal under the floor boards that is when the noise started w/the clutch. I am not sure if it is fine to drive like that or not.

I have adjusted the clutch pedal adjusting bolt and there is a noise (lite grinding) when the pedal is pressed. The clutch works - as I can shift it into all gears - but the noise is only there when I press the pedal, the noise stops when i let my foot off the pedal. It never made the noise before, just started when I disconnected the brake line to fix that.

Any easy suggestions? Thanks

Truck works great - just a minor clutch issue/noise. At the time of this picture - there were no issues w/the clutch.

Great pix !

Most clutch systems utilize a clutch release bearing, (also called throw out brg) that when the clutch pedal is depressed the bearing assy contacts the fingers on the pressure plate and causes the pressure plate to be pulled back from the disc and flywheel.. When the release bearing is lacking lubrication it makes noise when riding up against the fingers. Some were able to be lubricated from underneath the vehicle and some were not. If not able to lube, replacement may be the only alternative.

Hanky, Thanks for the reply. In your opinion - replacing the throw out brg - easy or not so easy? The Filling Station has the part w/instructions and it says it is easy, but all the repair manuals don't really go into much detail on how to replace the clutch - other than it appears to take out the engine....................from what I have read. Thanks again for the reply. r/dave

Probably easier to pull the transmission to replace the bearing.

If there is noise only when the clutch pedal is depressed it is almost always caused by a worn or almost worn out release bearing. The next stage is when it stops releasing the clutch altogether. If you are interested to buy JDM Cars visit JDM Sport Classics.
