Default 1966 Chev What is this part?

A friend of mine is restoring a 1966 Bel Air and this was lying in the trunk. Does anyone know what it is?

After much searching, I found one on Ebay. Apparently it's a transmission linkage shield.

I typed "1966 impala guard" into google and an ebay listing with a picture of one was the first result that came up.
