1983 Chevette Accelerator Pump?
Hi all,
New here. Just picked up a 1983 Chevette auto, *Pauses for laughter to cease*,
I love her inside and out but I'm afraid I don't know a whole hell of a lot about mechanics. To make this as short as possible - the seller told me she needed an accelerator pump. The car pulls off -ok- when shes warmed up but its a coin toss. It's like there is just a dead spot in the acceleration. and somethimes when i peg it the RPMs just drop.
Anyway I'm wondering if this does in fact sound like an accelerator pump and if so is it possible that it just needs to be adjusted? How would you guys proceed? This is seriously the only problem with this little antique and id like to be able to take her on the highway.
Thanks for your time.

My 1982 Chevette has been having the same issues lately. Even stalling out (being an automatic) Was yours a smog system chevette? are you still running the smog setup if so? if not could you take a picture of your engine bay and show me what your working with?
Mine had a smog system but someone deleted the pump and re-directed all the vacum lines and I know that, that isn't the problem b/c all I did last year was up the idle up and it was fine. Now I feel like the ultimate bass drummer playing double pedals when I have to accelerate unless I'm flooring it. So With these symptoms my boss told me today it sounds like my accelerator pump I'm half tempted to just remove this carb and get the none smog version but I really don't want to spend any $ on this car as I got it for free so any cheap fixes would be greatly appreciated.

I replaced the whole carb yestarday with a 1981 chevette carb. I got better response when I pressed the gas lightly but ran into the same dead spots as the other carb. I'm completely lost.
