'73 Chevy Bel Air restoration project
Hi all,
I'm Peter from Belgium and have recently come across a '73 Bel Air, 6cyl, manual transmission.
The idea is to entirely restore the car, meaning that we will be taking it apart until the last bolt.
However, considering this is my first restoration project I was wondering whether you all could give me some tips, pointers, etc.
First off all, how do you all feel about the engine. After some research it became clear that the 6cycl is rather rare, so I thought about keeping it (doing a complete overhaul and getting the hp up to its max potential etc.). However, the idea to replace it by a V8 crossed my mind as well... I would be happy to hear your opinion on the topic.
Secondly and considering the car has been in a shed for about 30 years, we intend to put in a new suspension, gearbox, transmission, etc. However, given there isn't a market for Chevy parts in Belgium, I was wondering whether you could provide me with some addresses where to find spare parts (original or custom made - especially the suspension is important), advice, assistance, etc. Doesn't matter it these are all US locations (although east coast might be easier).
I've done some research online already, but have to admit it's not easy to find parts for a '73 Bel Air... Also, not sure if the websites that pop up when searching are the best to go looking for parts...
Thank you already for your help (any help whatsoever is welcome
) and look forward to discussing the restoration project with you all!

Greetings Peter, welcome to the Forum !
Congratulations !, what a great find !
It's a very gratifying job to go though a ride as you have indicated, but, keep everything as original as possible. ie: repair rather than replace.
The value of a "near" original ride is both greater in monetary value as well as your pride in accomplishing that state of repair/recondition.
We here on this Forum, generally deal with more current models of the Chevy line. I don't generally suggest that one go to another forum, but, given your requests for parts and assistance, I'd suggest you visit...

These guys are really into the older year models, and have a wealth of experience and info to offer.
Good luck with your project.
