Default Chevy Aveo 2010 speedometer not reading correctly!

Was driving around a bit and noticed that the speedometer was not reading correctly. Pulled over stopped the vehicle and the speedometer was staying at 55mph, turned the car off, and restarted the car still stayed at 55 mph while idle. Began to drive and speedometer does work and move, so 120 mph is 60mph according to GPS from google maps. Nothing out of the ordinary has been done to the vehicle. Are there any simple steps to recalibrate the speedometer?! Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Probably the stepper motor for the speedometer is bad. Sometimes disconnecting the battery for 10-15 minutes resets it, but is only a temporary fix.

Thank you! I did disconnect battery for 15 minutes, and it reset. Took it for a test drive and tested against google map drive speedometer and it matched, lol. I'm looking at google for stepper motor replacement part. Do you know where that part is usually located in the vehicle. So I know what I'm actually going to need to replace and that I'm looking at the right parts ,lol.

You can get them on Amazon or at auto parts store. I got mine on Ebay. That's usually where you can get the best price. The stepper motor is in the dash in the gauge cluster. There is one for each of the gauges. If one went bad, the others aren't usually far behind. I replaced all 6 of them when I did mine several years ago. You have to remove the gauge cluster from the dash and take it apart. The stepper motors are soldered into the circuit board and if you can solder, it isn't very difficult. As long as you are in there, do them all.
