Angry Extra cost for damage that occurred during Car Inspection

Hello everyone,
I booked the major inspection for my Chevrolet Orlando (2013-Diesel) at one of the Opel dealers that take care of Chevrolet in Germany. Yesterday I received a call from the Workshop that the filter housing was completely damaged while changing the engine oil filter.

According to the workshop employee the filter cover was screwed with 10x higher torque after previous oil change. Now it required a higher force to open it, due to which the cover winch and the engine housing thread are both torn off.
The workshop is now asking for 1000€ extra for replacing the damage filter housing part. Unfortunately, I can't comprehend it, because for me this is the damage that has happened in the workshop by a workshop employee. But the workshop doesn't want to accept any liability for it.

What is fair now? Should I as a customer bear the complete costs for the part replacement myself, or do you have any tips for dealing with the workshop?

Best regards
Ali

You are responsible for the cost.

You are responsible - in hind sight, would have been nice if the shop had let you know the filter was not coming off and removing could cause damage. Just curious who did the last filter change? Maybe take the repair bill to them?!?

Hi Everyone thanks for the prompt responses,
just for clarification: the filter body was all OK before, it was not damaged before.
I also talked to my previous Workshop and they asked for a proof of it. they said if it was so tight the current workshop should have informed me before doing the damages. they should have informed me about the risk beforehand and asked for my consensus.

2nd thing, the current Workshop Informed me after when the damage was already done. In this case, I will be be able to say NO to the repair because than the car will b staying with the workshop forever.

It's the shop's job to service cars, not call customers every time they encounter a tight bolt. They don't have a crystal ***** to tell them when something will break. Your previous shop screwed up and is trying to weasel out of it.
