Default seirra oil filter

have a 2005 gmc seirra z71 5.3L engine code T. I have been using fram oil filters # PH9837. Recently I went to get a new filter and the computer now shows PH3506.

Have I been using the wrong filter? Which filter should I be using?

I have been thinking about to a Wix filter.

any help would be appreciated.

Fram filters are a no-no....it has been well documented that they can have weak check valve springs, cardboard retainers and the filter media is of lessor quality.

AC Delco 61E is what your dealer would use and the price is rite as well.....4 bucks at Walmart.

NAPA is good also and is made by WIX but costs more.

I use STP, these are made by wix (dana). NEVER EVER go with the cheapest filter, always the best. I'll reserve my remarks about Fram. You really should look at micron rating, pleats/area, and drain back valve, burst pressure ect. when selecting a filter.

As said, NEVER use fram.
They are just cardboard tips on the inside and poorly assembled.

I only use mobile one. No complaints.
It has less pleats, but I like the assembly better.

Probably the best brands in my opinion are amsoil, Bosch, Napa gold, pure one.
But replacing it every oil change, or every other oil change (if you change oil every 3k miles like I do)
Is just as important.

I have used Fram filters off and on for the past thirty years or so, and have never had any trouble with them. Perhaps I was lucky, eh?

The older frame stuff was ok, but since Honeywell bought them, they have been cheap POS

Here is a video of a guy openning up a frame that shares my passion for the company haha:

Default Silverado Oil Filters

Has anyone found a larger filter than that little baby size one we have to use? That little filter on my 6 litre just isn't right in my opinion.

I use Delco, Mobil 1 or K&N filters, but the Fram makes good filter, just have to get their Ultra guard filter. Saw a review on an oil website and it appeared to be as well made as any other filter on the market.

As for a larger filter, I know you can use avDelco Delco PF63 on the GMT 900 models; cannot say for sure in regard to older models. The 63 is about 20mm longer. But longer does not always denote better.
