Default 01 S-10 No headlights at night

I have my lights on automatic overide so they come on 24\7. My headlights no longer come on after nightfall only my running lights. I have turned the automatic overide off....no change?

when you say automatic override, what are you referring to? the headlight control on the left of the steering wheel?

and also, if your truck came standard with automatic lights it might mean that your sensor is bad.. check fuses first...

Yes, I am refering to the switch on the left. I have changed the 10 fuse, no luck. I try my high beams and low beams and get nothing. I am being told it could be a relay. Are the relay and sensor one and the same?

I haven't looked at mine closely but i do believe that they are tied in together... don't quote me on this.

something i did to help with all the little things is to buy a haynes repair manual for like $20 and it will show you wiring diagrams and everything like that to help with your questions.

The relay is on the same circuit as the sensor..
I have had a sensor go bad with me before. Its a really cheap part that is pretty much plug and play. Don't know where you live, but desert areas have more problems with the cad cell sensors than other areas because of the intense heat on the dashboard.

Update...I swapped out my relay in the fuse box under the hood with another relay in the same panel. I was told as long as they were the same color that would work fine. Still no lights. My lights work fine during daylight hours. If I turn off the truck and it gets dark I will no longer have lights. I have the dash pulled apart but cannot find this "sensor". I would swap out the switch but if the lights work during the day I wouldn't think it would be in the switch. Other than that I've been told it could be a short in the harness that is in the steering column. But again, wouldn't that also affect my daytime lights? It doesn't. Don't want to pull this apart if I don't need to.

Update. I've boiled it down to the ambient light sensor in the speaker grill located on the passenger side of truck. Only problem...don't know how to fix it.
