my dad has a 1984 S10 with the 2.8 in it recently his MSD Ignition box died so he decided to be frugal he decided to go back to a coil and i don't know a distributor?. Well last night he was attempting to explain the problem he had he said" the ground wire if i put it to ground the truck wont start but if he puts his tester the kind with the light and clip not a multi meter it will start so he ohm ed out his tester and was asking me about putting a resistor on the ground wire" . I was like what ? Don't " rig it" do it right, he just got done painting it its pretty sharp little ol truck, lowered, roll pan, cowl hood and nice wheels... any way I need advice should I just buy him a msd box or is there a way to fix the coil and what not situation? any wiring diagrams that any one might have would be very helpful! My dad does seem to forget a lot when he takes stuff apart but he still knows 5 x more about this stuff then I ever will.

The ground wire for what? As far as I remember there is no ground wire for the distributor or the coil.

he also said something about 2 red wires and 2 white?
