Default 1989 Lights

I recently got a 1989 GMC S15 with the 2.5 it doesn't have signal lights or brake lights, but when at a complete stop the left turn signal comes on. I have heard that these things have bad steering column assembly... any thoughts? thanks

Its not the whole steering column, its just the two switches that control the lights and turn signals.

You should also check the wiring and bulbs to the lights that aren't coming on.
