2001 S-10 Not Starting
Hello,
I have a 2001 S-10 2WD 4-Cylinder with 150,000 miles on it. My wife was driving it one day and it powered down and shut off in the middle of driving about an hour and a half into the trip. She tried to start it and it tried to turn over and didn't (and it wasn't out of gas). Now if you try to start it nothing happens (no attempt to turn the engine over) except for the usual pre-startup whirling sounds. I assume the battery is good (the radio, lights, etc... still turn on) so I was wondering if this could be the starter acting up or maybe the fuel filter.
If you need anymore information I will be happy to provide it.
Thanks in advance!

I`ll say its the starter relay. Change that first. If that doesn`t work, its the starter. You say you hear the fuel pump come on when you switch it to "ON?
I have an 02 S-10, same thing happened. It ended up being the in the tank electric fuel pump. I live in California so I hope if that's what's wrong it's less to fix. The pump alone was $349.95. I thought they were kidding but at work we have an account with a local auto prts store, you guessed it, it was that much.
The symptoms were:
The truck started loosing power and you could tell the engine was going to die. I put the clutch in and popped it, nothing. My wife and I pulled over. I tried to start it. It turned over but would'nt start like I was out of gas.
The first thing I did and you may want to do is check ALL of the fuses. There's a "panel" door on the drivers side inside the cab and another one on the drivers side under the hood. I hope this helps and I hope it's $1.00 fuse!

Since I'm a newbie to the Bowties, I can't say definitely, but I'd be willing to bet there's a fuse for your fuel pump. Now whether it's in the fuse box under the dash or under the hood, I don't have a clue. But I'd look both places. If you have an owners manual or even a Haynes manual for it, you should be able to find the information you need.
