I have a 1983 chevy s10 6 cylinder carbureted, of course. Not very adept to carburetor work but Im thinking that is the source of my problem.

the issue: I can drive the car ONLY if I can keep it in gear or when it is out of gear I rev the engine. Soon as i let off it gives a few seconds of sputters and dies out.

I replaced the fuel filter, I've sprayed carb cleaner into the flaps on the carb. Any ideas as to the source of the problem or helping to diagnose where to start?
