Default 98 Blazer DIY Aux Input?

In my 98 Blazer I have the radio with CD player and automatic volume control, with the tape player in the lower console. Since I never use the tape player, I was considering removing it and sticking an aux input in there (nothing fancy, just a normal line-level 1/8" jack). Has anyone done this before, and how feasible is it? Would it be as simple as soldering the jack to 2 wires, or do the radio and tape player communicate with each other somehow?
