Does the truck pick up speed if you go through the gears manually?
Does the service engine light come on?
Does the engine cut-out (miss)?
Do you have gauges ... like a water gauge ... and if so, does the engine run hot?
Also, does the pop noise sound like a mild backfire, or is more like a mechanical noise (metal moving on metal)?
Check your transmission fluid first...
The problem may be the TCC valve body in the transmission. The 4L60E transmissions have a history of those problems. Does it accelerate any at all when you punch it at 45 or just slowly?
If you run the codes on it, it will come up as P1870 if the TCC is the case.
After the TCC is ruled out...
Pop noise from the front end is the engine mount. If you take off hard, the noise you hear will be the fan hitting the shroud. A quick way to check is to pop the hood and then hit gas and brake at the same time while in gear. Not enough to break traction but enough to see whether the engine jumps up.
45 MPH is not a good speed to accelerate from with these vehicles. REALLY SLOW. Only worsened by the A/C...
I'm not saying that you don't have a problem, but its hard to determine from your description. If its accelerating, but not much it could just need a tune up. If its not accelerating at all, then its probably the TCC.
You could also have a myriad of sensors out... I got a Sonoma out at the shop that had MAF, O2, and TPS sensors go out at the same time, then started regurgitating oil from the PCV. Still too many possibilities. We need to work on getting the list thinned down. Remember to describe what it does with very much detail.

what i mean is that when i am traveling at 45 mph i would floor the gas pedal to try to get around a car but in stead of my truck speeding past the car, my truck wont move much faster and the rpm will hit redine then shift to the next gear. But if i dont floor the gas pedal and stay steady and constint with the pedal it will shift fine and go through all the gears fine. but usually when i am driving normal the truck shifts kind of hard going into 2nd gear. The sound i hear when i take off is a pop noise. i am told that is could be the u-joint. is this true? and what will happen with a bad u joint?
thanks david

The is no check engine light. It does accelerate but slowly when i floor it at 45 mph. i am not sure on how to check the fluid, i didnt get a manual on how to when i got the truck. i have had a 95 blazer and i could notice the difference between the two when i floor it. the 95 blazer took off when i floored it. is there any difference between the transmissions? why are they so different?
I was told the popping noise was most likely the u joint. what could happen if i have bad u joints? When i am moving slowly and i accelerate is when the pop noise occurs but once in a while. also when i move my car from nuetral to reverse i hear a tink/thunk noise. is this normal?

There's also another extract with a few hints on how to check the fluid.
I started my 1995 Chevy blazer and heard clunk clunk clunk, like metal rubbing metal, so I turned it off. Restarted it, no noise and the motor sounds strong. Then on my way home, I heard pop noise and then it back fired. I'm afraid to drive it now, should I be?
