Hello I just purchaced used a 99 s-10 4.3 4x4 120k miles for $3800.

The only minor problems so far are: Transfer vacuum switch intermittent, and the A/C does not get cold!

My questions are: How can I get the passcode for the radio theft-loc feature, and what kind of factory security system came on this vehicle?

I know that the radio will be permanently disabled if the passcode is not entered, but where, how, ..what if i need to disconnect the battery.

I also know that there is a security IDIOT light on the dash that blinks when I remove the key.

I did not get an owners manual or any info on these items when I bought this truck AS-IS foom the car lot.

I cant help ya with most things on mechanics but I had the same problem with a slightly used truck with the theft lock radio. I beleave that year truck should have the same radio as mine so maybe this will work on that year too.

turn off the radio
press 1 and 4 untill SEC apears
Press MN and 000 will appear
press mn again to make the last 2 digits agree with your code
press HR to make the first 1 or 2 digits agree with your code
press AM-FM to confirm and youll see--- wich means its unlocked

That is right out of the manual on disabling radio theftlock. I got a secret master code from my dealer
for that type of radio (0426).
You have the cd player right, not the tapedeck.

 

Thanks, frazprg, when I press AM/FM, I get the---so I guess the Theftloc feature is already disabled.

I also discovered that the CD player will not read CDs. Even thogh the radio sounds great, I will probablly replace it anyway.
