Whenever I start my 99 s10, takes a few seconds, then the engine starts. It's like it has a short somehow, don't know if it's the alternator or starter. Cranks a few times, then eventually fires up ok. What do u fellas think?

I can tell you it is not the alternator. You need to have the battery and starter tested. Take a good look at the cables especially the bolt threads.
